I just washed Paige's clothes to get ready to switch to a bigger size when she decided to help. She was sitting where the blue bulb syringe is and as you can tell rolled through my once neatly folded and organized clothes piles and ended at the front door.

Oh let the fun begin!!

Baby Proofing

When we first moved into our little apartment we decorated like any person would, putting things where ever we wanted because we could. Paige was just a baby and couldn't get into things so we didn't care how low things went...

Well the baby proofing has begun. Paige isn't crawling yet but what was once a cute little decorated spot is now a play corner.

Because Paige was spoiled at Christmas her toys didn't fit in a little bucket anymore. My sister was kind enough to give us this toy bin shelf that her kids had out grown, and we have filled it!

Paige loves sitting in this corner and pulling everything out of the bottom bins.

She is starting to pull herself up so she can get the toys in the higher bins. She loves standing at her play table and pushing all the buttons.

She loves playing or more like chewing on her blocks. She is quite the little musician.

I can't believe how big she is getting!

8 Months

This little angel is 8 MONTHS OLD!!

Every month I can't believe how much she changes, different things she learns and how she is growing and growing.

At 8 months Paige is starting to feed herself. She has the "pinching" motion, as Dr Dad says, down and will pinch/grab food. Bigger snacks make it to her mouth but the small things usually end up being dropped.

Paige still isn't crawling but is getting close. After about 30 seconds of trying on her belly she usually ends up rolling over to her back and kicking her way to the toy. She also has the bum scoot down and will scoot over to toys and other things.

Paige still loves to stand. She is getting better at holding her balance and pulling herself up on to things. I always tell Ryan that she will probably walk first but get sick of falling down and then learn to crawl but then go straight to running!

Paige we love your smile, we love your laugh, we just love you!! You have such a fun personality and are always smiling at us and everyone that stops and says hi to you. Your big baby blues are beautiful and I hope you never lose that sparkle in your eye.

Year in Review

So last night was New Years and Ryan and I traveled all day and were worn out by the time we got home, and crashed before 9:30!! (yep were getting old)

With the new year I couldn't help but think how different our life is now compared to what it was like at the beginning of 2011. I would have never thought that a little conversation I had during a car ride to the airport last Christmas would lead to a baby blessing and being sealed during this Christmas.

Our lives were truly blessed this year. It was a wonderful 2011 and we hope 2012 is even better!!

Tuesday December 27th we were able to take Paige to the temple. Paige looked like an angel in her white dress and it was fun to go back and be sealed again. I feel like it was more meaningful now then when we got married. Paige we love you and so glad that you are stuck with us FOREVER!!!

Introducing Ryan Lisa and Paige APPLONIE!!

Today we went to the court house and finalized our adoption!! The judge walked in and we had to stand up... Just like Law and Order :)

We went around the room and talked about what this day meant to us and how much we loved this little girl and how perfect our little family was.

Our judge was super cute and funny and loved Paige.

After the ceremony we went to lunch with our friends the Irvins and Sam and Amy. Thank you guys for coming and being part of this special day.

Good News

Since we moved to Michigan during our adoption process, it made finalizing really difficult. We had to redo A LOT of paperwork, redo our fingerprints, etc. We would turn in our paperwork to the court and they would call back and need something else. We would wait on Idaho and/or Missouri to turn in forms and so on... It was getting really depressing. Ok- I was getting really impatient!! I felt like things were so unorganized and we were never going to finish before the end of the year.

We wanted to have it finalized for several reasons: 1. Ryan's schedule will be super hectic from January 1st until, pretty much the next five years. He starts all his hard rotations (surgery, obgyn, internal med) then its board studies, his brothers wedding and then out rotations for the next 3 months applying for residencies.... like I said SUPER BUSY!! 2. It would be so perfect to do it over Christmas break so our families could come. 3. Lets face it reasons one and two are enough!

We finally got the call and have a court date!!! December 7th at 10am Paige will legally be ours and we will be finished with interviews and paperwork.
DONE DONE DONE!!!

We are able to take her to the temple on December 27th in Idaho Falls.

We are so excited for this holiday season. We have so much to be thankful for. We are so thankful for the people that have come into our lives that helped us adopt Paige. We love experiencing everything with her and can't wait for her first Christmas! We have the best families that have welcomed her and spoil her rotten. Ryan has been blessed with great doctors to work with and learn from. And we have great friends!!

Doctor Version vs Husband Version

Yesterday was Ryan's first day of pediatrics. After he came home I asked how his day was and he told me this little story...

"I got to watch a c-section today. We were waiting in another room, so we could take him after he was born, while the ob was doing the procedure. There was a large window so we could see inside. As I was watching the procedure, I looked at the dad. He was sitting by his wife's head behind the curtain. As they were pulling the baby out, I quickly glanced at the him and he was so excited! He was telling his wife about the baby."

The story goes on...

"Lisa, I almost shed a tear. Those are the good moments!"

Later that night, we had some friends over for dinner. Both of them being doctors/ and starting a new rotation as well, asked Ryan about his day. He started the story the same way with talking about the c-section but left out the mushy stuff and threw in some medical terms...

I just thought it was sweet. I love that Ryan is so smart and even though he can get real busy with medical school, he is still human. He still remembers how he felt when Paige was born and the excitement that came over him. Ryan, you are a fantastic dad and you are going to be an amazing doctor!!

So Not Boring...

Some days I think that we are so boring... Ryan goes to work, I stay home, and on the weekends we just lounge around and watch tv! Sound like your lives??

Well I decided to catch up on some scrap booking and realized we DEFINITELY are not boring!! I can't believe how busy these last six months have been. All the vacations/mini trips we have on. The visitors that have come to see us. How much Paige has changed. I could go on and on....

So next time you think that you have an ordinary and boring life, take a trip down memory lane and you'll realize how AWESOME you are too!!!

oh and ps Ryan and I went on our first real date since Paige was born! The doctor he was working with game us his tickets to a Red Wing game. We found a baby sitter for Paige and took the night off.

We ate in Greektown and then went to the casino to gamble. ok really we lost about three dollars in three minutes. I don't know how people gamble all the time. Since we felt sorry for ourselves for losing we went and shared an ice cream and headed for the game. The seats were great! We have never been to a hockey game before, so all we expected were some fights. There were a few fights and heck the Red Wings even won. YAY!!

Snow Flakes

One day in Provo while Ryan and I were dating, the snow began to fall. I was sitting at my apartment with my room mates when we saw Ryan running towards our door. He opened the door and kissed me then turned and ran back towards his house. Every time the first flakes of snow fall we remember that moment and continue to celebrate the same way!!

This year we were able to include Paige in our little winter celebration :)

Fun with Cousins

Over that past month Paige has spent a lot of time with her cousins...

It has been fun watching them interact with her and also her playing with baby Jaxon.

Ryan played in a soccer game with my nephew Andrew. It was his last soccer practice and the kids play a scrimmage versus the parents. Since my brother in law was out of town working Ryan was kind enough to step in. It was a fun game and Ryan had fun running around and playing some soccer again.

Pumpkin Carving

We went to a pumpkin patch one weekend and picked out the perfect pumpkin. It was really fun and I think we will do that every year instead of getting it at a grocery store.

We carved our pumpkin and Paige helped. She wasn't afraid or freaked out by the "guts". We had to make sure her pacifier was in because everything that she can grab, goes into her mouth!

I carved the eyes and nose and Ryan gave our pumpkin a mustache instead of a mouth. It was a fun family event!

1st Halloween

Paige LOVED her first Halloween! She was such a trooper and would go up to the homes and smile and they would give her an extra piece of candy for being so stinking cute!

We went down to my sisters house and helped her take her kids trick or treating. I honestly think Ryan had as much or even more fun than the kids. Hallie was a green witch and was tired of carrying her broom so Ryan used it as part of his costume and would ride it and lead the other kids to the next house...

Ryan and I didn't get into the dressing up thing, maybe next year, so we used all the accessories that the kids didn't want to hold as our costumes.

I think Paige realized all the candy was in the pumpkin. She worked really hard at trying to figure out how to dump it all out. We finally helped her and showed her how to separate it.

We have taught her well... She went straight for the chocolate. Sorry Paige, next year you can enjoy the fruits of your labor, but for now, THANKS!!

Do you ever think that your baby can't get any cuter???

Well I do and then another day comes and I get to pick out another outfit and dress my my size barbie and BAM...

She is even cuter!

Everyday I can't believe how blessed we are with this little cutie! Everyday her personality shines more and more. I can't believe how much and how fast she is growing!!

She finally wore all of her 6-9 month outfits. Hopefully she can wear each outfit a couple more times before she out grows them and we have to start all over...

Ward Halloween Party

Tonight was our ward Halloween party. Ryan and I are lame and didn't dress up, but hey when your this cool you don't really need a costume :)  Of course Paige went as a pea pod, and she was the cutest little pea pod EVER!

Instead of doing trunk or treating, our ward does trick or treating in the church. You can sign up to decorate a room and the kids go from room to room saying trick or treat. I have never seen it done this way but we loved it. You don't have to go outside and the different families decorated the rooms so cute. We're still trying to get Paige to say trick or treat but it usually ended up with her just smiling at the candy!

They also had a little dance after the trick or treating and Ryan couldn't resist going out there and showing Paige how to shake it. They did that silly dance where the song tells you what to do "clap your hands, stomp your feet, move to the left" you know that song if you ever went to a stake dance...

 So far we are enjoying Paige's first Halloween. While I was putting Paige to sleep, Ryan was busy separating the different kinds of candy and we each took turns picking out candy that we wanted :)

Man we can't wait until Monday to do it again!!

Kirtland and some Family History

Since moving to the Midwest, Ryan and I have been able to visit some historical LDS sites. We were part of the Nauvoo stake in Missouri and traveled to Nauvoo and Carthage a few times. We went to Kansas City and visited Liberty Jail and Independence. Now that we are in Michigan, we decided to visit Kirtland which is only a few hours away. Since this weekend was going to be the last warm and sunny weekend of fall before it starts to turn into winter, we called some of our good friends and planed a little road trip!!

We went with the Irvins and the Childs and went to the Kirtland temple first. It is owned by the Community of Christ and they took us on a tour of the inside. We were all commenting afterward about how different the feeling we felt between the Community of Christ tour and other tours we have taken with LDS missionaries.

After the temple we went to the LDS visitors center. I remembered that a friend from BYU was serving a mission there and we actually ran into her at the visitiors center. It was fun to catch up since we haven't seen eachother for quite a while. We then toured around the town of Kirtland.

Paige was such a trooper the whole time. We stopped by the Whitney store and the tour guide told us how the owner kept a record of his customers and what they bought. Heres the family history part....

I knew that my dad's side of the family has a lot of pioneer stories, so I opened the book and went right to the Ws for Woods and saw the name Daniel Wood. I have heard that name a lot and felt pretty cool that his name was right there! I took a picture with my phone and texted my dad to make sure that that was the right Daniel Wood and it was. Daniel Wood was baptized by Brigham Youngs brother in Canada and then joined the saints in Kirtland. While they were building the Kirtland temple, people who were against the church tried to vandalize the temple. Daniel was one of the 50 armed guards that protected the temple at night. He then traveled with the saints to Missouri and then to Illinois. After Joseph Smith was killed and the saints began to travel out west, Brigham Young asked Daniel to stay and prepare for the second group to travel out west. He was told to plant seeds and harvest food for their company. He then traveled with the second group and arrived in the Salt Lake Valley. Later on he was called on a mission by Brigham Young. The city of Woods Cross Utah is named after Daniel Wood.

It was a fun trip and now I can't wait until spring so we can make the trip to Palmyra New York!!!

Growing Pains

I think I am suffering from growing pains! No I am not growing, but it's sad cause my baby is growing. Today I pulled out all of her 3-6 month clothing and replaced it with 6-9 month clothes. It was so sad. They looked so small yet so big!

On top of growing out of her clothes, this little one is sitting up all by herself!

Paige has such a fun personality and I can't get enough of this cutie pie!!
I just wish she would stop growing :)

Times of Change

The leaves aren't the only things changing around here....

I can't believe that this little girl is 5 months old :(

She is changing so much! Is always wide eyed and wanting to stand up and look at everything around her. She is starting to get better at sitting up by herself. She can do it for a while if she sit and stares at her feet :) but if she leans for a toy or gets excited she falls over! She is eating oatmeal and rice cereal and has started on vegetables!

Another thing changing, is that my sister and her family are moving to the Chicago area. We are trying to get as much time with them before they move.

Last weekend we went down to their house and watched my nephews play soccer.

It has been fun living by them the past few months and watching them grow and watching Paige interact with her cousins.

Of course Paige had to get in some play time as well!

We are loving fall and all the beautiful fall weather.

BYU Game

Of course while we were in Utah we had to go to a football game! We went and watched the BYU vs University of Central Florida game. The girls and kiddos made it to half time and the big boys stayed until the very end.
 

Paige did pretty well even though it was way past her bedtime!

Missouri BFFS

Don't worry this is a little family tradition we have!!

While I was in Provo I had to call up our groupies from Missouri and we went and had lunch and took it to good ole Rock Canyon Park and ate and talked while the kiddos played. It was so good to catch up and see these girls again and see their little babies and how big everyone is getting. We miss them already and can't wait to see them again.

Utah Vaca

We went to Utah and tried to fit in as much family time as possible. We flew into Utah, hung out for four days then went to Boise for a couple and then a surprise visit to Idaho Falls to see Ryan's parents! It was a fun but fast trip! Love you all and can't wait until our next family vacation :)

Airplanes

Had to hurry and tell this story before I forgot about it...

Paige and I survived our first plane ride together! We traveled to Utah to see both my family and Ryan's. Paige did great on the first trip there and I was glad because I was so worried. I started to get worried again the day we were traveling back to Michigan. I tried to keep Paige's naps short so that she would take a long nap on the plane.

When we got to the airport security was a breeze and we got to our gate fine. I changed Paige's diaper so she was ready for a nap. Gave her a bottle and we boarded the plane. Right when they pushed away from the gate and started to take of Paige POOPED!! REALLY!! I have to sit here and worry that everybody on the plane would smell this stinky diaper, then Paige fell asleep. Yep! The seat belt light finally goes out and Paige is out cold. So I wrap a blanket around here hoping to keep the stink from creeping out. Paige finally woke up and I took the opportunity to change her. Changing a diaper on an airplane is kinda hard. Those bathrooms are tiny! We sit back down and I had Paige lying on her back in my lap when I started to feel something warm on my jeans. I picked her up and looked up her back... You guessed it EXPLOSION!! I had to stand up and change her again in that tiny little bathroom. I never pack an extra outfit because she never does that! She has only exploded twice in her life, now three times! I hated myself for not stopping and packing her pjs to change into. Now I had to keep her in a blanket to hide the big yellow stain on her back.

We finally landed in Houston and I had to run, seriously run, to the train to take me to the other terminal and run to the end of that terminal to board the plane. I was the last one on the plane and probably looked like a crazy woman running with a baby in the airport. I felt Paige's diaper and it was still fine from the last time which is good because I didn't have time to change it. We boarded the plane, sat down and then I felt a little wet part on her back. AGAIN!!! REALLY! AGAIN! She pooped her pants again as we were taking off. Sorry exploded again! Now she has exploded four times in her life and two of them were in a 3 hour time period. Lets just say that outfit is still soaking :)

That must have hit the spot because she slept the entire flight! Yes three hours in a poopy diaper and a stained outfit. Now I wasn't so made at myself for not packing her pjs because those would have been ruined too! I was so ready to get off the plane give her a mini bath in the kitchen sink and go to bed. I was so lucky to have gotten seats next to people who didn't mind sitting to a baby and actually played and helped entertain her.

New Week

It's going to be a fun yet busy week... We have a lot of cleaning and laundry to do so we can pack and head to UTAH on THURSDAY!!

Heartbreaking

Paige has come down with a little cold... Well thats what we hope it is, I made Ryan get out all of his medical equipment and check her ears and listen to hear breathing, pretty much I was freaking out because my calm happy easy going baby girl was screaming all night, constant runny nose and coughing. Finally around 2 am I put her in her car seat and drove around Grand Blanc until she fell asleep! She has been sleeping in her little chair because she doesn't want to lie flat, I enjoy the cuddle time but really enjoy sleep too.

Her nose has stopped running but now her voice is gone! Listen to her cute little squeaky voice. It is heart breaking that I can't do anything to help her. And I want to cry every time she opens her mouth to laugh or talk but nothing comes out and she has to try so hard for a little squeak.

A Jumbled Mess

Things have been a little crazy around here with family in town and driving back and forth to my sisters house to hang out with her family and her adorable new baby!

But in the last two weeks I turned 24 and we celebrated by going to Famous Daves for dinner. Ryan had to work late and that's all we could fit in before dinner. He was nice enough to bring home a cake. You know you are married to a doctor when your birthday cake comes from the hospital cafeteria!!

The weather has been cool the last couple of days and I am really excited because I have been waiting for it to get cold since March so Paige could wear this cute puffer vest!! It's still a little big but hey she's stinkin cute :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!

Paige keeps getting bigger and bigger! She rolled over a few weeks ago from her stomach to her back and hasn't done it since :( sad but now she is getting close rolling from her back to her stomach. Anybody else's kids stop rolling over after doing it??

Well back to Paige... We started giving her rice cereal and she is doing pretty well with it.

Scrumptious! Ok thats all that is really going on here... We just busy with work, church (oh I got called to secretary of young womans and Ryan is sunday school teacher of 15-16 yr olds) and being the coolest parents EVER!!

Mother of FIVE

We have been busy busy BUSY around here!

My sister had this little cutie on 8/17/11 and I had the pleasure of watching her kids while she was in the hospital and helping with them after she got home until my mom was able to come out. For a few days I was a mother of FIVE!!! It was fun but exhausting. I am so used to taking care of one baby and the luxury that comes with it... Sleeping in and taking daily naps.

We spent our days going playing games and going back and forth to the hospital. The day after my sister was released we celebrated Hallie's 4th birthday!!

She is a loved little girl! Here she is sporting her new snow white dress and her Rapunzel hair, lets just say we love princesses in our family!! Paige was even playing with a few of her dolls :)

Other exciting news is that during that time Paige rolled over (see videos below) and has found her thumb!!

I think it is cute and she can do it for a while. I know it can affect their teeth and jaw structure but for now it is adorable!

Honeymoons Over

Today is our 3 year anniversary!!

Even though the honeymoon is long over we are still in love :)

We have had quite the year... we made several road trips to Michigan and to South Carolina, Ryan started and finished his 2nd year of medical school.

We went through a lot of medical treatments that ended in us adopting the most beautiful baby girl EVER!!

We moved to Grand Blanc, MI and Ryan started his 3rd year of medical school and we have been experiencing a lot of new first as a family!

Also the honeymoon stage of Paige is starting to fade... I mean we still love her to death, but she is changing. We think she is in the beginning stages of teething. She is chewing on anything! Her shirt is always wet from drool and she is starting to get a little fussy.

And now she is starting to roll over!!

On Sunday I put her on her stomach to show how strong she is getting and she rolled over to her back. She has done it both ways rolled left and right from stomach to back!!

My sister had her baby boy yesterday morning... Jaxon Ryan Tarbet  9lbs 7oz 21inches!! He is a big boy but is cute as can be. He has red hair just like his siblings!!

The Weekend

Look at this girl!! Isn't she cute in her Sunday best?!?!

Yesterday we spent the day with our friends in south Detroit. We had a bbq and then went to a show called 100 years of Broadway and it was amazing, even though it was pouring!! They had some people that performed on Broadway sing some of the popular songs from the shows. My favorite was a whole segment from the Phantom of the Opera. The two performs were both the lead singers for like 10 years and they fell in love and are now married and they were AMAZING!!

Thanks Childs and Irivns for such a fun day!!

Whats happening at our House

Some one is getting excited for grandma Coburn to come....

Thats right next week my sister is having her little guy and my mom will be out to help with the newborn and we are excited to have some visitors in Michigan!!!

This little one gets cuter and cuter everyday :)

Ryan has started Paige on soccer. She seems to enjoy watching it, I don't know if "it" is actually the soccer game or just staring at the computer screen, but it keeps her happy!

I took a picture of them watching it and she looks up, saw the camera and started smiling! I think we have her almost trained :)

Other things, I wanted something to hang in front of a mirror we have in our hallway so I looked up some crafts I could make. This wreath was super easy and I actually did it while I was talking on the phone with my mom and its less than 10 bucks!!!

Take that Missouri

One of the things that I really REALLY didn't like about Missouri was the heat and humidity!! I am thrilled to say that we have perfect weather this week here in Michigan  :)

It was about 75 degrees, sunny with a nice breeze! So nice that I opened the windows and sliding doors to let it in! If we were in Missouri we would be sweating our brains out. I wouldn't open our windows until late September when it isn't humid anymore.

Paige and I took advantage of this nice weather and have been playing outside. I laid the blanket so it was in the shade for her and the sun for me. Aren't I nice?? And we took a little nap together!

Don't you wish you were here too??

This weekend in Raspberry Days at Bear Lake. Ryan's family always spends the weekends there at his grandparents cabin and guess where we are?? NOT THERE :(

3 MONTHS TODAY!!!

I can't believe that it has been 3 months already!! 3 months ago I was sitting with my mother in law getting a pedicure and receiving the news that baby Paige would be arriving soon. We hurried and threw on those thin plastic pedicure flip flops and rushed to the hospital. When we got there I put on my shoes, yes I ruined my pedicure :( and ran to the nursery and we got there right as they were bringing her in.

Here are some stats on this little cutie:
-She now weighs 12lbs 4 oz 24 inches long
-She wears a size 2 diaper and 3-6 month clothes
-She has slept through the night for the last 2 months and is now putting herself to sleep for her first nap at 9
-She is laughing and talking more and more everyday
-She is very active! She is constantly kicking and waving her arms.

AND WE LOVE HER!!!

Anyone that knows me, I AM NOT A MORNING PERSON!! That has been one of the biggest adjustments since Paige has come along. Every morning Paige wakes us between 7 and 8... I know what your thinking, that's not even early!

I wake up to Paige talking to herself in her crib. I get up, make her a bottle and walk in to find her like this....

And that smile makes it all worth it!

Moms Day Off

So I learned a lesson yesterday... Moms don't get days off!! If I am sick, I still have to work :(

Yesterday I woke up and had a terrible stomach ache. So I didn't eat breakfast cause I thought that would make it worse. As the day went on I thought maybe I have a stomach ache cause I haven't eaten, so I ate a bowl of cereal... IT DIDN'T HELP!! IT MADE IT WORSE!! As I was taking care of Paige, meaning she was playing on the ground and I was curled up on the couch, I was counting down until Ryan was going to be home.

Luckily Ryan only had a half day and Paige, Ryan, and I laid down and took a 3 hour nap together. Thank goodness for husbands and block out blinds. It was great that I was able to take a nap and it helped a little. Ryan left for a couple of hours to help a family move and the chills hit me. My body became so achy and weak and I was freezing in almost 100 degree heat! As I was giving Paige her bath, I wanted so badly to jump in and have a bubble bath too. Once again I found myself counting down until Ryan came home so that I could hand Paige over and relax in the bath. Finally right before we went to bed, 12 hours since my bowl of cereal, I finally had an appetite and ate a piece of toast.

Lets just say I am thankful for such a sweet baby that will entertain herself and a husband that only had a half day of work!

Lesson learned :)

She didn't like the pool very much because it was pretty cool. I did take her to the hot tub and dipped her feet into it and she liked that.

Stronger than Yesterday

Everyday something is changing with Paige. She is getting bigger and stronger everyday! I was cleaning and putting away her newborn outfits and started getting out her 3-6 month clothes because I know she'll need them before I know it :( I love that she is getting more interactive and social. She is constantly smiling and is starting to make more baby noises. She is still sleeping 10-11 hours at night and loves to cuddle.

Family Camp Out

Last weekend we decided to go to western Michigan and camp near Lake Michigan. Lake Michigan is compared to the ocean around here and has some really nice beaches. It was Paige's first camp out and she loved it!!

The first night we were there, it rained and thundered all night and she slept through it and slept all night. It continued to rain the next morning, so we spent the morning hiking around and shopping at the mall.

It finally cleared up and we headed for the beach and it was BEAUTIFUL! It was nice to lay out and relax listening to the waves. Paige slept while we were at the beach and then decided to wake up to show off her new swimsuit :)

It was a great weekend with our awesome friends the Irvins that are rotating in Michigan near us. We're excited to go again next year and can't wait for more trips with the Irvins exploring Michigan :)

Life on the Go

The last fews weeks have been CRAZY!! It has felt like a never ending process but finally we are settle in Michigan.

It started by going to Kansas City. We went there for the weekend to see my dad that was working there. We hung out with him when he had some breaks and were able to go see the church sites before we moved from Missouri. We went to Liberty Jail and to Independence and saw the "Hershey Kiss Temple" or what ever you have heard it called.

After that Ryan had his boards on Monday and Paige and I headed home to pack and start cleaning the house. We loaded the truck and hit the road on Tuesday. Paige and I drove my car for the 10 hours and Ryan drove the truck. YES! I survived a ten hour drive with a baby by myself!!!

We got to Michigan and my sister watched Paige so Ryan and I could unload the truck and start unpacking. THANKS CHRISTINA!! We had everything unpacked in two days and just needed to hang pictures on the walls and do some last minute shopping. Ryan's parents came into town on Friday. Scott was our handyman and did everything and Dona was an extra eye for decorating and helped take care of Paige. After everything was done we went exploring.

About 20 minutes from our house is Frankenmuth. A Bavarian town with a HUGE Christmas store and famous chicken dinner.

We also drove to Lake Huron and walked on the beach... Which was disgusting! At this time every year, because of the temperature change in the water, all these fish die and get washed up on shore :( but of course Ryan couldn't resist on playing with some of them!

The rest of the time we spent relaxing and enjoying the cool weather. My mom also came to visit and we spent time with her and my sisters family for Andrews 7th birthday.

We live on the edge of a persevered wetland area and so we always get little creatures in our back yard; bunnies, deer, raccoons, bats and fireflies!

Happy Fathers Day

We have had quite an exciting first fathers day... Last night Ryan got sick and spent the night in the bathroom. He had a fever and an upset stomach. Which led to us not having to go to church today. THANKS RYAN! Then the sickness continued with an achy body and bloody noses. Yes my gift to him was taking care of him and cleaning up after him... Happy Fathers Day!!

With all of that we still had a fun day. We made German Pancakes for breakfast and ice cream for lunch and some chicken for dinner. It was nice to spend the day with Ryan's parents as well. He watched soccer with his dad so I didn't have to :)

One Month Down

We survived the first month!! Paige is now one month old, wears size one diapers and looks freaking adorable in her 0-3 month clothing. We have a routine now and she is sleeping six hours at night (10pm-4am) and then Ryan takes her in the morning before he starts studying for boards.

Life/Parenthood has been great and we feel truly blessed to have Paige in our lives. She is getting bigger and more alert everyday. It melts your heart when she smiles at you. She is getting stronger and will put weight on her legs and holds up her head a lot.

Paige loves bath time! She loves kicking in the water and making cooing noises. Then we lather her up in lotion, gotta love that baby smell.

Nighty Night!! After Paige goes to sleep it gives Ryan and I some time to pack a few boxes and get these cutie pictures in frames for Paige's new room. I can't wait to move so we can set up her nursery :)

School is over and its time to start packing and saying goodbyes :( We have been spending all our time with friends and getting every last second with them before we all start leaving. We already had one family move and another is getting ready to move. It is sad to lose our Kirksville family but we are excited for the next step in medical school.

Since we finally made it back to Missouri, my AWESOME friends threw Paige and me a baby shower, and it was the cutest thing ever!!

It was a sweet pea themed party and everything was green and pink. Thanks again girls for everything and it was fun having one last girls night before we move!!

1 baby, 2 girls, 6 states, 10 dirty diapers, 18 hours we finally arrived in MISSOURI!! I was excited to shower and freshen up before seeing Ryan but he had the house keys and we were locked out :( but Ryan finally finished class and we were able to see him!!

I told Ryan that it was his night to take her so I could get some sleep since I was getting sick and it did great. He was a little late for school because he couldn't refuse to feed her one last time. It is fun seeing Ryan with her!

It has also been nice to be home. The suitcases are put away and Paige is loving the swing and bouncing chair we have for her. It saves me arms from doing all the work :)

It has also been nice to see all our friends since some are starting to move (tear). Our friends the Sandgrens had a baby 11 days after Paige and she is so tiny, see above, and here is our friends the Oldhams boy Carter who was born in February, hes our Chunky Monkey :)

We finally received clearance to leave the state of Idaho and quickly got in the car to head to Utah to visit family before continuing on to Missouri. Ok lets take a break from all the cuteness of baby and show what we did while Ryan was here...

He was able to get a last minute flight to get here in between required lectures for school to spend the weekend in Idaho. His parents came over to see us and hoping Paige would debut while everyone was here. She waited until the last 2 hours left before she came. That gave us all weekend to hang out with family!!

We enjoyed dinner at Bonefish Grill in Boise. Ryan ate some kind of fish (it was a fish place) and I had a steak and then dessert at Cheesecake Factory. It was delicious but I regretted it later, I think the steak gave me food poisoning. I was sick all Saturday and Sunday. I was pretty much curled in a ball on the bathroom floor. Sorry to much info but luckily it didn't hit until Saturday night so that gave us Saturday to do our favorite thing in Garden Valley...

SHOOTING

We took some 22s to the gun range and shot at random things we found around my parents house: bottles, pictures, cans etc.

Ryan and I had a competition and he'll say we tied but I TOTALLY won!

We also taught my parents a new card game we learned at Christmas while in Idaho Falls.

Over all it was a great weekend minus the sick part. I was so worried Paige would come while I was sick but thankfully she didn't!

I am glad that Ryan's parents and Ryan were able to come and we can't wait to see them again :)

Week One

We have survived the first week!!! It has been a long couple of weeks. It was mentally, emotionally and physically exhausting waiting for her to come and then going through the adoption process. Some times I look over to my mom and ask if she is crying... don't worry we both do. You can't help it when you look at this precious baby and know that she was meant for our family. I have truly been blessed with a daughter of God.

Even though she is only a week old, I already feel like she is so big! We put a newborn outfit on her and it was almost to small to fit her head through :)

Here are some facts about Paige:
-She has a dimple on her right cheek
-She loves to smile
-She likes to sleep on her side
-She loves to be held
-She eats really well and doesn't spit up too much
-She is getting better at sleeping longer through the night

Happy Mothers day to my mother in law. Thanks for all you do for our family.

Happy Mothers day to my mom. I made her lunch in bed. A big meal of grilled cheese and potato chips and an ice cold rootbeer :) My mom is such a hard working mom. She is always giving a 100% in everything she does. Thanks for taking care of me these past weeks and even changing a few dirty diapers.

And THANK YOU Paige for letting me be your mother. You have made a lot of dreams come true and we couldn't be any happier now that your in our family. It was fun celebrating my first mothers day. We missed you Ryan and can't wait for you to experience your first fathers day!!

Home Sweet Home

We were released from the hospital on Tuesday and have been getting used to life with a new baby. We have been staying at my grandma's house in Boise. Paige is doing great. She is eating and sleeping really well. She does have her nights and days mixed up but she is still sleeping 2-3 hours at night in between feedings.

Here were are getting dressed to go home. There is our nurse and the LDS agent that helped us with the paper work.

We went to the birth moms baptism on Saturday and here is Paige in a pink sundress.

Here is the birth parents and birth grandparents along with my parents and I. It was an amazing experience.

Here is her first church dress. After church we came home and stayed in our pjs all day and took a long Sunday nap. It was a great way to end a long, emotional week but a fantastic week at that!

ok- so I better back track and start from the beginning... Ryan and I have been trying to have a family since we moved to Missouri. After several fertility treatments and a year later we reached a point in which our next option was in vitro. We discussed adoption but thought we would do that later in life. Through mutual contacts we found a family that was going through LDS Family Services and looking for an adoptive couple for their baby girl. After a lot of prayer, long conversations, and A LOT of thinking, we knew that this baby was meant for us! March 1st we started the paperwork with the LDS agent in Columbia. We were lucky that everything went smoothly and quickly since the due date was April 24th. At first we only planned on me coming to get Paige but Ryan was able to get a last minute ticket to come out for the weekend and see her for a couple of hours on Monday. We are so happy and even though it hasn't even been 24 hours, I couldn't imagine our lives with out her! So there is the rough story of how things happened. Thanks to those who helped keep our little secret :) Oh and here is the pictures that everyone wants!!!

When we got to the hospital they had just brought Paige to the nursery. We hurried and got our bracelets so we could take her to a room. They asked if we wanted her bathed and we said NO we only had a short time before Ryan and his parents had to leave. We were able to spend about a hour loving her together as a family before Ryan left.

Our friend had a birthday this last week, and we celebrated last night by having an 80s themed birthday party. Since we don't have anything 80s, my friend Kenzi and I decided to go to our sweet Salvation Army to get some clothes. I bought Ryan a mesh tank top, a members only jacket and some old school basketball shorts. I also bought a pink dress, blue shoes, a scarf and jewelry all for around ten bucks!! Oh and we can't forget the 80s baby dress for Jen's fake baby...

One night we were at a girls baby shower, and someone asked where Jen was. They answered that she was sick and Kenzi and I joked about her being pregnant. Someone over heard us and a rumor got started (gotta love small towns). People went up to her and told her congratulations and she had no idea what they were talking about! Sorry Jen :( but we still joke about it and now people know that she really isn't pregnant... or are you Jen?!? jk

After we got all dressed up we decided to go to dinner before heading to the party. We went to classy Ruby Tuesdays where we were asked if we were going to prom! SERIOUSLY PROM!!Thanks for thinking that we look like were in high school but, I WOULD NEVER GO TO PROM DRESSED LIKE THIS or go to prom with someone in a MESH TANK TOP!!!

I have been trying to catch up on the years events and scrapbook them before we begin a new chapter of our lives. I am so overwhelmed by how blessed we have been while living here in Kirksville. I am so thankful for the people we have met and that we now call friends. You have all touched our lives and we are better people because of you. Thanks for the memories and all the pictures! We will miss you so much as we go our separate ways for school, but will never forget the times we had in the KV :)

OH MY GOODNESS!! It is the first of March... MARCH!!! Everything we have been putting on all winter, it is now time to do it. We said we'll wait for spring break to look for housing, oh after winter when it finally warms up I'll deep clean my house... Hello it is spring time and break is in 2 weeks.

Finals are next week and Ryan is busy preparing for them. He only has one quarter left in his class room studies and then we move to Michigan where he can start his clinical rotations. We move in two and a half months. Where did time go?? It is still far away, but I think about all I/we need to do in that time and it will be gone before we know it. Then it will be time to pack and say the much dreading good byes to all the friends that have become family to us. We need time so slow down so we can get everything done that we need to... oh but warm up faster!!

One Year Older and Wiser too

Wednesday was Ryan's 26th birthday!! Yes he is now closer to 30 than to 20 :(

He started he birthday with German Pancakes (his fave) and a test in Oncology and a full day of classes... YAY!

We went to Bonzai, the Japanese Sushi house in Kirksville. Yes you read that right, sushi in Kirksville! We went with another couple who also had a birthday recently. The girls ate chicken and the boys ate sushi.

We then enjoyed cake and ice cream at our house. Ryan LOVES chocolate, so I made a triple chocolate triple layer cake. In between the layers was chocolate fudge frosting and then the whole cake was covered in milk chocolate icing. And don't forget chocolate ice cream. IT WAS DELICIOUS!!!

Ryan got a new pair of shorts, two pairs of shoes, swim trunks, dress socks, and gift cards.

Vitamin D

It's surprising what a little Vitamin D can do for you... Today was a beautiful day! A day that makes you want spring to come so much faster. The light at the end of a dark and dreary winter. Today was a small taste of spring :)

I was able to sleep in and wake up to the sun beaming through our bedroom window and warming up the room. I went to the car wash and washed away all the mud and vacuumed all the salt junk from the winter roads. I went shopping and bought a new spring outfit. IT WAS GREAT!

I think that the new year should start in the spring time. I think when the sun finally starts shining and the weather warms up it gives you that extra boost and the feeling of new possibilities. You want to start eating better and loose that winter weight. You want to set new goals and you actually feel like you can achieve them.

Oh how I love spring!! Now if it could just melt all the snow we just got and keep warming up that would be great :)

We Survived

The storm hit and man did it hit!!! Ryan went to school yesterday (Tuesday) and they cancelled class at lunch and we closed the pharmacy so I didn't have to work the rest of the day. And thank goodness... I was talking to my dad as I was driving home and the storm was starting to rage. I couldn't see very far down the street and almost couldn't make it up the small hill to our house.

Luckily I made it home, grabbed me something to eat and went to look out the window and because it was so windy, my foot prints were already GONE!

The snow and the wind blew all night long and created some pretty big drifts... All night we would go look out our back door and watch the drift on our patio grow taller and taller. The snow in our drive way was taller than the bumper of our cars, so we were definitely snowed in :)

Thankfully they came about nine this morning and shoveled the walk way to everyones door and around all the cars and the parking lot. We hurried and measured the snow before it was moved and it was over 18 inches!!

So today we are enjoying siting in our pjs, no work no school, and watching HGTV. Life is good :)

Mountain Girl

I always joke with the people I work with that I'm a mountain girl and can handle ANYTHING...

Well we are under a Blizzard Advisory and a Severe Winter Storm Watch pretty much all week. Now it is time pull those little tricks out and show that we can handle anything and everything thrown at us. I am glad that this summer we finished out 72 hour kits, we have plenty of food storage and means to cook it if power goes out. I am so glad that I was able to have crazy life experiences growing up so far from civilization, and that my parents taught us by example to be prepared...

Now BRING ON THE STORM :)

Christmas in Idaho Falls

I really didn't take any pictures while Ryan and I were in Idaho Falls. It was a nice break just to sit and relax at home with Ryans family. Ryan was able to go snowboarding with his dad and our friends Aaron and Lauren for a day at Targhee. And received his first Christmas present... I had his dad go and get his board waxed and all tuned up so he could fly down the mountain.

Ryan also signed up for a soccer league that played over the break. I went to the traditional girls breakfast at Bubbas on Christmas Eve and played LOTS of games and stayed up way to late every night.

We received some great presents from family and had to ship them back to Kirksville.

Boise

Since we were spending all of the holiday break in Idaho Falls, I flew out a little earlier to see me side of the family in Boise. I had a great time helping my family, especially my grandma, get ready for Christmas.

We spent our time making yummy treats and caramels for the holidays for every one to snack on. We wrapped some of them in nuts and dipped in chocolate.

It was messy but totally worth it.

I spent some time in Garden Valley with my brother and parents. One day it snowed a lot and made it feel more like Christmas time.

Ready Set Dodgeball

Ok so I am behind a bit but life was a little crazy and busy between Thanksgiving break and Christmas break. In that time we had alot of fun with our friends in Kirksville. Ryan signed up and played in a dodgeball tournament that a club in the school was hosting. Their team all dressed up like hicks (which sadly reminded me of people where I grew up) and they won the whole thing! We won gift cards to some local resturants.

Then I went an saw Tangled in 3D with a Natalie while our husbands studied the night away...

It was a cute film and after that we spent the night making yummy desserts and watching old christmas movies

November in a Nutshell

November was a busy month between Ryan having finals, Thanksgiving, and work. We drove to Michigan to stay with my sister and the rest of my family came and visited as well. It was so fun having our whole family together for Thanksgiving. We haven't been together for over a year and we haven't been together for Thanksgiving since 2001!!

Next year we will be moving to Grand Blanc MI so Ryan can continue his education in a hospital setting. I am so excited to move there for many reasons but an added bonus is that it is 40 minutes away from my sister!! Ryan and I decided to take a day and drive up there to look at different housing places. It was crazy to think that in 7 months this will be our new home. The hospital/grounds were really nice and we found some nice places we could live in :)

My nephew turned 3 and we celebrated with a cowboy cake. We did the tradition turkey dinner with all the fixings but most importantly...

BLACK FRIDAY SHOPPING!!! and turkey bowl (football)
My sister and I left the house at midnight to head to Old Navy for pjs and noticed that the line was forming already at Target (we weren't plannin on lining up until 2) so we hurried and ran to Walmart to get some presents on sale and then headed to Target. We were not prepared for the freezing cold temperatures. My sister was in flip flops and I was in a hoodie. She stood in line while I ran back to the house for some warm supplies. We got home at 7:30, took a small nap, showered and headed out again with my mom...

We scored some good deals and now I can't wait for Christmas!!

We returned home to Kirksville to super cold temperatures. It makes it feel more like Christmas without snow and the mountains back west :(
I haven't even unpacked yet because next Friday we are leaving to go to Idaho Falls to visit Ryan's family and having Christmas there!

I hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving and have a Merry Christmas (hopefully I post before that!)

2. Won intramural volleyball YES, WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!

Lisa
1. Became a licensed pharm tech and has started working full time :)
2. Went to Centerville IA and picked up an antique hope chest for a low $50 GREAT BUY!!
3. Also won intramural volleyball!

OK so I realized we really didn't have anything to update since Halloween.... sad life I know, but we are really REALLY excited to get out of town this weekend for Thanksgiving break :)

Happy Halloween

We had a Halloween party at a friends house and it was a blast. We had over 20 people and had soup, salad, and home made rootbeer! The kids had a pinatta full of candy and also a cake walk/dance party :) The couple had fun doing a donut on a string eating contest and Matt and Kenzi DOMINATED with eating that dounut in 10 seconds!!

Pumpkin Party

We are so lucky to have great friends here in Kirksville. When we move next year I am really going to miss all them all and the little things we do together.

Our friends invited us over to their house to carve pumpkins since Halloween is THIS SUNDAY!! Ryan and I stopped at Walmart and bought a cute perfectly round pumpkin to carve.

Thanks Earl and Rachel for having us over and hope everyone is ready for Halloween!

Future Doctor!

Today we found out where Ryan will be working and continuing his medical education. We gave the school our top six places which were Grand Blanc MI, St Louis MO, Wyandotte MI, Columbus OH, Detroit MI, and Trenton MI....

We got our 1st choice!! Next June we will be moving to Grand Blanc Michigan and couldn't be more excited. I have sister that lives in Canton MI which is a little more than a hour away from us!!

Ryan's Ankle

Last Saturday Ryan was playing intramural flag football and decided to roll his ankle! He jumped up to block a pass and landed on the the opposing teams foot, causing Ryan to roll his ankle. He hoped off the field and stayed on the couch icing his ankle all weekend. By Monday he was able to put some weight on it.

His two feet after it happened... before the swelling was at its biggest

During class, Ryan was moving his ankle seeing how if felt and noticed that he could move it front to back but wasn't able to go side to side and was worried that he might have fractured the bones on the side of his foot. So we drove to Macon, MO to the doctors office that Ryan works with with ortho club. They took some xrays and everything is fine and the doctor was surprised that he didn't fracture the blah blah blah bone....

His two feet and my foot.... You can't even see his ankle bone!

All in all, his foot was super swollen, and not it is bruised all over! Looks pretty cool :) but don't worry Ryan is fine and was playing goalie in soccer later that week. (the goalie only stands there anyways!)

Do you ever see your husband?? That is probably the most common question that I am asked... Every time I say yeah and never really think about it, but I figure I will designate a post just to being a medical student wife/widow!!

I was thinking about this the other night and remembering what it was like being married to Ryan while he was attending BYU and the differences between undergrad and medical school. I realized that life really isn't different! I came to Missouri prepared to never see him and cherish the little moments we had together between tests. I was surprised when he was home ALL THE TIME!

During undergrad Ryan always took a full course load, worked on campus or off, and still kept a really high GPA. I think that work ethic really helped him adjust to medical school and the pressures it has on a student.

One little difference is that Ryan can't skip class and head to Snowbird for the occasional snow day and snowboard in all the fresh powder :)

Another difference is that I we eat more at home now... In Provo we would either be eating out or switching nights cooking/eating at other family members house. We were blessed to have my brother and sister attend BYU while we were there and we would switch nights cooking for everyone.

We still are involved with intramurals. Ryan played soccer at BYU and he still has a night once a week to play. He also plays raquetball, football and we play volleyball together.

I am not saying medical school is easy and that it's for every one but you really get out of it what you put into it. Ryan works hard so we can enjoy time keeping a normal life... But he really can't wait to enjoy some snow days again :)

Temple Cleaning

So my friend Kenzi and I went and helped cleaned the Nauvoo temple this week and it was a really fun experience. It was a little strange at first just walking around inside the temple, but it was fun to see some of the things that you usually wouldn't see while doing a session.

We were able to walk down the hall way with some of the original temple clothes from saints that lived in Nauvoo, keys to the original temple and we saw Joseph Smith's sword. They head custodian lady showed us part of the painting in one of the rooms that President Hinckley painted and she also showed us some of the "secrets" to the murals in the rooms.

She told us that next time we could go up in the tower that is on top of the temple!

It was fun to get out of Kirksville and have girl talk on the way to Nauvoo. Thanks for going with me Kenzi!!

Falling in Love Again

So just had to post this, but last night I came home from a meeting around 10:30pm. Ryan stayed up playing on his computer until I came home (sweet huh). We had a five minute conversation about the meeting and then he headed to bed. I did a few things around the house, turned off lights and locked door, then headed upstairs to go to bed as well....

We are lying in bed and I tell Ryan that I am starving. He sits up and asks if I want him to make me some pancakes!!! I paused thinking about warm chocolate chip pancakes hot from the griddle, covered with syrup, served to me in bed by my husband. Oh.... but then I thought about Ryan staying up another 30 minutes when I know he has a 7am meeting. I told him thats sweet but he didn't have too and gave him a kiss good night.

I have to say that I fell in love with Ryan again when he offered to make me pancakes!!

Football Frenzy

You can't have a fall without some FOOTBALL! We love us some football... We got College Football, Intramural Football, Fantasy Football, and Monday Night Football!

Like I said we love us some football. It's the perfect time of year for it. The weather is cool and crisp. Makes me crave a hot dog and some nachos :) The sad thing is it makes me miss BYU and going to their football games with friends and family. BUT Missouri is very colorful and vibrant.

Ryan is on an intramural team with some friends and it is fun to watch him and hang on the sidelines with the other wives.

ok ok get your mind out of the gutter!! But really, I don't know if it was the weather or going on all the summer vacations, but I AM BACK!! I feel normal again and feel back into my same routine... I finally want to clean and cook meals again and just be the best wife ever! Today I cleaned me house from top to bottom, did all the laundry, and made dinner!

I think Ryan is going to appreciate it because now we won't eat peanut butter sandwiches every night and he'll have clean clothes and our house will look and smell pretty!

Gotta go finish folding laundry... PEACE

Columbia

We spent most of the time in Columbia with Ryan's brother Tyler. We ate at some fantastic restaurants. We tailgated for the opening University of South Carolina football game (sorry no pictures), toured the town and campus and went to the Clemson vs South Carolina soccer game. And we also enjoyed watching BYU beat Washington... GO COUGARS!

Charleston

We spent a day and a half in Charleston and did a boat tour of the harbor and then a carriage ride through the city. I loved the architecture of colonial America and enjoy the stories of the civil war.

my future beach house!

We had great weather and a nice sea breeze to keep us cool. We saw pelicans diving into the ocean and catching fish and also DOLPHINS!! Dolphins were swimming around the shrimp boat feeding off what they were throwing back into the ocean.

We went and toured the Boone Hall Plantation. They had origin slaves homes that served in the house. They had a Gullah guy that did a demonstration on the slave language, and religious beliefs and how they had to adapt them to being in America and learning English.

It was such a fun trip to Charleston. Thanks Ryan and his parents for surprising me with a night in Charleston.

It was a great 23rd birthday!!!
